Entry Requirements and Admission Criteria
The admission requirements and selection criteria for the Master's Programme are based on Articles 16 and 17 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, as amended by Royal Decree 861/2010.
Applicants must:
- Hold an official Spanish university degree or another qualification issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that entitles the holder to access Master's studies in the country where the qualification was awarded.
- Applicants holding qualifications obtained under education systems outside the EHEA may also be admitted without prior official recognition (homologation) of their degree, provided that the University of Lleida verifies that:
- their qualification represents a level of education equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university degree; and
- it grants access to postgraduate studies in the country where it was awarded.
Admission through this route does not imply official recognition of the applicant's previous qualification in Spain, nor does it grant any rights other than admission to the Master's Programme.
Recommended Entry Profile
The Master's Programme is aimed at individuals interested in the development of rural areas (both public and private sectors) and in the ecology, planning, and sustainable development of mountain regions.
The recommended profile includes graduates in Geography and other degrees within the Social Sciences and Law fields, such as:
- Business Administration and Management
- Economics
- Law
- Tourism and Tourism Management
- Social Education
- Audiovisual Communication
The programme is also suitable for graduates in Architecture and Engineering, Sciences, and Arts and Humanities who are interested in the management and development of mountain areas.
Information to Consider Before Enrolment
The compulsory modules are taught on campus, generally in afternoon sessions from Monday to Friday, except for the field workshops, which run on a full-day basis.
The optional modules are delivered online. In most of these modules, students work independently, and tutorial schedules are arranged directly with the teaching staff (please consult the module guides for detailed information).
However, two optional modules are taught on site and include fieldwork activities:
- 12428 – Mediterranean Mountain Workshop and Tourism
- 12434 – Natural Hazards in Alpine Areas
Students enrolling in GIS, Planning and Landscape who have no previous knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are strongly advised to take the Mountain Cartography module beforehand.
Please note that, for logistical reasons, Module 12434 – Natural Hazards in Alpine Areas is limited to 8 students.
Selection will give priority to:
- newly admitted students;
- students enrolled on a part-time basis;
while also taking into account the applicant's academic record from their entry qualification.
Applicants enrolling in the Master's Programme for the first time must indicate during pre-enrolment if they wish to take this module. Students already enrolled in the programme or studying part-time must submit a formal application between 22 and 26 June. The Academic Office will provide further instructions regarding this procedure. The final list of the 8 admitted students will be published on 9 July, together with the first list of students admitted to the Master's Programme.
Provided that the University of Lleida has sufficient funding available, the Master's Programme will cover the accommodation and breakfast costs for the workshops. To date, this has been possible thanks to additional funding provided by the Institute for the Development of the High Pyrenees and Aran (IDAPA), and it is expected that this support will continue.
This funding may only partially cover the costs of Module 12434 – Natural Hazards in Alpine Areas, which takes place in the Swiss Alps. Due to the high cost of accommodation and other expenses in Switzerland, enrolled students will be required to co-finance part of the travel and accommodation costs, estimated at a minimum of €500 per person.
The Master's teaching staff are responsible solely for the academic delivery of the modules. Students are responsible for arranging any logistical or administrative requirements necessary for participation in field activities.
Participation in field trips is undertaken at the student's own responsibility. The University will take all reasonable measures to minimise risks; however, students remain primarily responsible for their own safety. Neither the teaching staff nor the programme coordination can be held liable for any accidents or damage suffered or caused by participants.
Students under the age of 28 are covered by the student insurance included with University enrolment. Students aged 28 or over are not covered by this insurance and must arrange their own accident insurance policy.
