Objectives

The Master's Programme provides a comprehensive perspective on mountain areas, enabling students to acquire professional expertise in:

• Analysing and interpreting the environmental characteristics of mountain regions and the associated natural hazards.
• Understanding the cross-sectoral challenges affecting mountain areas and developing integrated solutions.
• Identifying and applying the legal and regulatory frameworks governing the planning and management of mountain areas.
• Designing and implementing initiatives within mountain socio-economic contexts.
• Promoting the sustainable management of mountain environments.

Learning Outcomes and Competences

Basic Competences

(Annex I, Section 3.3 of Royal Decree 861/2010)

BC1 Demonstrate knowledge and understanding that provides a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context.

BC2 Apply acquired knowledge and demonstrate problem-solving skills in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study.

BC3 Integrate knowledge and address the complexity of making judgements based on incomplete or limited information, including reflection on the social and ethical responsibilities associated with the application of their knowledge and judgements.

BC4 Communicate conclusions, together with the underlying knowledge and rationale, clearly and unambiguously to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.

BC5 Develop the learning skills required to continue studying in a largely self-directed or autonomous manner.

General Competences

Specific Competences

SC1 Identify, characterise and interpret the physical and human uniqueness of mountain regions, and explain the diversity of mountain territories.

SC2 Analyse, interpret and evaluate environmental change and conflicts, with particular attention to biodiversity conservation and environmental balance in mountain areas.

SC3 Design, prepare and implement plans and projects related to risk prevention, resource management and spatial planning.

SC4 Identify key cartographic sources and apply Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to the analysis of physical and social environments.

SC5 Analyse economic development processes in low population density areas.

SC6 Design local development projects within the framework of public policies, programmes and funding schemes for the development and promotion of rural and mountain areas.

SC7 Develop sustainable growth and development strategies for tourism, renewable energy, and other innovative economic sectors in mountain regions.
